Compassionate Care for the Youngest Patients
At Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury, we proudly provide a full range of children’s dentistry services. We love working with kids, and our team knows how to put children at ease during their treatment. We also work hard to teach young patients good dental habits that will last for life. As a parent, you naturally want the best for your child. Schedule an appointment for your little one and help protect his or her beautiful smile.
Dental Exams for Children
We typically likes to see children around their second birthday. By this time, their baby teeth have started to come in, and we can monitor their dental development. We will also provide a gentle cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from their teeth. Children are just as susceptible to dental decay as adults, and these cleanings could be the best way to protect their long-term oral health.
Patient education is a big focus at our practice. We will guide you and your child in maintaining your healthy smiles. We urge you to set a good example and to guide your children as they care for their teeth at home.
Sealants and Fluoride Treatments
Sealants and fluoride treatments are preventative pediatric treatments. Fluoride, a naturally-occurring mineral, can strengthen teeth, prevent demineralization, and ward off decay. Although it is present in many foods and city water supplies, most children do not get enough fluoride for sufficient dental protection. By applying a fluoride coat or varnish to your child’s teeth, we can strengthen their smiles while they are still developing. Fluoride treatments can protect your child’s dental health for decades to come.
When your child’s adult molars start to come in, we will apply sealants. These thin plastic coatings go on the top chewing surfaces of the molars. They form a barrier on the tooth and prevent decay from developing between the sharp cusps. Although sealants and fluoride treatments are typically considered pediatric treatments, adults can sometimes benefit from these procedures, as well.
