Encourage your new reader to get excited about reading while practicing their skills at this weekend’s local Shrewsbury library event. “Read to a Dog” is a kid-friendly event that pairs certified therapy dogs with young readers to encourage children to love reading. The event, hosted by local therapy pet program Paws for People, is focused on children reading aloud to therapy dogs so they can practice their reading skills and improve. The library event takes place this Saturday, March 21, and will feature therapy dogs Sophie and Connor.

At this family-friendly event, certified therapy dogs from Paws for People are present to encourage reluctant readers to visit the library and learn to love reading. Sometimes children just need a little encouragement to try something new: If you have a young reader who is resistant to reading aloud or reading on their own, the promise of a friendly and cute pooch may be just the push they need to start practicing their reading. The highly trained dogs and handlers from Paws for People are certified to work with people in social environments, so children and parents alike should feel comfortable interacting with therapy dogs Sophie and Connor, who will be present at this Saturday’s library event.
