Invisalign uses a system of clear aligner trays to slowly shift your teeth into better alignment. What Issues Can Invisalign Treat?
Invisalign can help address many of the same misalignment issues that traditional braces would, such as gaps between the teeth, crooked teeth, underbites, crossbites, openbites or overcrowding.
How Does It Work?
Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign uses a series of clear aligner trays in order to realign the teeth. There are several benefits to this system.
- First, the trays are almost unnoticeable, meaning most people won’t even recognize that you’re undergoing treatment.
- Secondly, the trays are actually removable, which makes eating and tooth brushing much simpler than with metal braces and brackets. (You will need to wear the aligner trays between 20 and 22 hours a day, to maximize their benefits. But removing them for eating and cleaning is allowed, and even advised.)
- Invisalign treatment is generally less painful than traditional braces, because the trays are made from a soft, BPA-free plastic that does not irritate the way metal can. They’re also made to move your teeth gradually, in order to minimize discomfort. Most patients are able to adjust to wearing the trays quickly.
