Are you unhappy with minor imperfections in your dentition that you think you can do nothing about? Sometimes there are one or two (or more) small things that you may feel mar your smile such as pits, grooves, teeth that are uneven, too pointed, or have rough or scalloped edges, and more. Sometimes small changes in your dentition can make a big difference, and we all should be able to smile and feel good about our teeth. So, if you are unhappy with small things about your smile, teeth contouring may be an option for you.
Teeth Contouring
Your teeth are protected by a tough, semi-translucent coating called enamel and because of this, it is possible to remove the slightest bit of enamel to recontour the shape of your teeth without jeopardizing the health of your dentition. Minor changes such as polishing away pits, grooves, points, etc., can highly improve the appearance of your smile.
Tooth contouring is quick, easy, and affordable. It can be completed in one visit, and requires no preparation. In certain cases, contouring may even eliminate your need for braces if you have slightly overlapping teeth.
While your dentist may administer a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable or if you experience dental anxiety, there is little if any discomfort associated with tooth contouring.
Bonding and Contouring
Tooth bonding and tooth contouring are often performed together. While contouring removes the very slightest amount of tooth enamel, bonding adds composite resin to your tooth structure and can brighten your teeth, lengthen your teeth, fix chips, cracks, fractures, and more.
