There are many ways to improve your smile that can take months or years to complete. However these long-term solutions aren’t the only ways to improve your smile. Did you know that dental bonding and contouring can often be completed in a single office visit while dramatically enhancing the beauty of your smile? Through the use of composite resin which mimics your teeth’s coloring, and a non-invasive procedure, we’re able to carefully sculpt your teeth to look more uniform and symmetrical. If you’re unhappy with your smile, perhaps dental bonding and contouring could be just the treatment option, to help you like your teeth.
What Can Contouring/Bonding Do?
Dental bonding relies on a composite resin, the same kind used in natural-colored fillings, to cover the teeth, so we can then sculpt them into shape. This procedure can help make teeth that are too small look more proportional, fill minor gaps between the teeth, cover permanent staining, and smooth jagged edges.
Contouring, often used in conjunction with bonding, involves polishing away some of your teeth’s enamel to reveal a more uniform smile from your own natural teeth! This too can help to improve jagged edges, and it can also be used to correct minor overlapping.
Are Their Benefits of Contouring/Bonding?
There are two primary benefits of contouring/bonding, versus other cosmetic treatment options. One is that they are able to be completed quickly, often in as little as one hour. Secondly, the cost is significantly less than many other cosmetic treatments, including veneers and orthodontia.
During an initial consultation we can help you determine if either of these procedures, or a combination of the two, can help you achieve your dream smile. There are some downsides to choosing these options, namely the composite is not as strong or stain-resistant as dental porcelain, so people with bruxism or smokers, for instance, may not be ideal candidates. They are not as comprehensive as orthodontic treatment, either, so they are not ideal for candidates with severe alignment or bite concerns.
We can also help to create a comprehensive treatment plan during your initial meeting with us, as bonding/contouring is often done in conjunction with whitening your teeth to your ideal shade!
